What Happens When It Rains

When the Boyfriend and I bought our very large house we knew that the reason we were getting it for such a steal was because of the flooding issues. I also have to say that, so far, we've really lucked out; our basement has not yet become the indoor pool that we were expecting.

But the floats are waiting, oh, they're waiting.

And hell, in the event that our basement DOES turn into a swim zone, I'm going to go out and buy some of those little umbrellas for the cocktails that I will create just for the occasion... and you will all be invited.

We had a close call this weekend, but the power stayed on and we trooped through it. This is what we woke up to on Saturday morning:

See that tree that is bending dangerously to the right? That is where the creek line is. That is is the line you normally have to walk to just to see the water.

See that lake to the right? That's normally a grassy field. I'm thinking... lakeside property, baby!

But these branches? Now THAT is just a nuisance.

The Best Is Yet To Come

So after weeks of waking up every single morning to peruse the new home listings and the daily price changes, after groups of days of arguing with the Boyfriend about whether or not we provided a seller with a good offer, after the frustration of waiting for the house that we could one day call home... we have finally found a house!

AND
let me tell you... the stress over the months of home searching were starting to wear on me so bad that I often considered forfeiting, saying fuck it and building an addition on our tiny, tiny apartment and living there for the next 30 years until we had 8 kids and then we could simply tie up the homeowners and move into the first and second floor apartments too.

ALAS, it appears that when you run out of energy and you think that giving up is just inevitable, you find it in yourself to give your dream one last push and sometimes that one last push puts you exactly where you need to be. "This is a test, this is only a test"... fuckers.

Ok, so here are a few pictures of our new house. I've turned stalker the last few days and can't help but drive by the house regularly and gawk... unbelieving that it's MINE (ok, ok, ours, whatever!) I can't wait to open that door for the first time and drink a glass of wine in my empty house while I dream up color schemes and play the radio loud enough for the neighbors to hear. Mm Hmm...

Oh and on a separate note, when you are notably stressed out DO NOT allow your siblings to catch on. Why, you ask? Oh because your sister will be that asshole that combs through your hair and goes "You must be stressed, I see your first gray hair".... well, I guess she will always be THAT asshole ;-)

On The Brink

So after months of careful consideration on the Boyfriend's part and constant nagging on my part about my desire for "dinner parties" and "barbecues" we have finally decided to take the plunge, call a realtor and buy a house. Eek! It all seemed well and good until I realized that this will forever change my life. There will be no more frivolous days of me dreaming of running away to Europe or of going back to school and living at my parent's shore house or... oh I don't know, say... falling in love with a British trust fund baby and sailing around the Mediterranean (a girl can dream!)

As nervous as I am... I really am excited. I can't wait to sign my life away to a piece of property. Hell, at least it's better than signing my life away to say... collagen? breast implants? I've been dreaming about this for a long time... the day I walk in to MY house and look at MY yard and yell at MY hot water heater for breaking in the middle of winter... you know all those FUN issues ;-) Plus I couldn't imagine a better man to buy a house with than one who can re-tile my bathroom AND put up dry wall. Mm hmm... I hit the jackpot.

So, we're looking for houses in the Abington/Ambler/Plymouth Meeting/Lafayette Hill/North Wales area... and I'll keep you posted on our decision, if we make one... since we are two of the most indecisive people on the planet...

On a separate note,

The Boyfriend and I have been on this super health kick lately. Yesterday after our ass kicking work out at LA Fitness we decided to go to the grocery store. Now, I HIGHLY recommend going grocery shopping after you work out because it will make you pick your choices very carefully. You'll pick up a bag of chips, read the calorie content and go "oh, hellll no, not in this lifetime". THIS should be the new form of dieting! Fuck Atkins. I worked way too hard to burn those 350 calories, eh eh.

While at the grocery store analyzing the nutritional content of a box of Wheat Thins, the Boyfriend discovered that veal burgers are half the calories and half the fat! That's wicked. So go eat a veal burger, top it with some tomatoes and lettuce and feel good about yourself because you just cut your meal in half which means you can drink that next glass of wine GUILT FREE!
