Ok, so there was this article today on Philly.com about Las Vegas and how it has been affected by the financial crisis. Alright! so I understand a few things about economy and the effect it has on the people. I know that there is a cycle; we spend, which goes into someones elses bank and they spend and then it all continues in this happy little equilibrium like that lovely recycling symbol we all love so much. I also know that if people don't travel or spend money then someone elses's job will suffer; taxicab drivers, casino workers, maids, etc. I GET IT.
HOWEVER, I have a little bit of trouble feeling sorry for these mega conglomerate casinos. I really, really do. These casinos rob people blind without remorse or pity. A guy loses $200,000 and NO ONE CARES... they'll give him a free suite and say "see you tomorrow sucker". So now! I'm supposed to feel bad that I don't want to spend my hard earned money like a fool? Do I feel bad for the "house"? NO, not at all. Those leeches have made so much money over the decades off of hardworking people and now they want MORE.
I DO feel bad for all the people who work in Las Vegas that have been affected by people's lack of spending. I think at times like these those super wealthy casino entreprenuers should be stepping up to help out the situation. I just don't understand why the rich get richer while the poor get poorer and why I should feel as though I need to spend, spend, spend so that some millionaire somewhere can upgrade his yacht this year or not have to sell his personal jet. Eh Eh.
Perhaps deep down, underneath it all, I'm a socialist or maybe I just hate casinos... I'm not sure. I know I like to go to casinos and I'd like it even more if they gave half a shit about the people coming in and out. But let me tell you... I can not stand disgustingly wealthy people who don't give back to the people and then wonder why we don't all want to spend our money on capitalist garbage.
Oh and way to go Philly... thanks for bringing more of these ridiculous casinos to our city... awesome. AC was just too far, wasn't it? Now we can have more debt ridden people than ever before... it will be fabulous.
